down and rebuilding of the Church at a cost of $2,500, and431
the levelling of the new site for it at a cost of $300.

Besides this total outlay of $2,800, I was asked to sanction
the grant of an additional area of 5,000 Square feet as an
extension of the site for a Rescue Home. As the Government
would ultimately derive considerable benefit from the removal
of the site originally granted I considered that the proposed
terms were reasonable, and in August, 1901, I authorised their
acceptance. The sum of $2,800 was paid last year and charged
against the Vote "Building Grant, Education Department'.

The further additional area now asked for
by the Society is 14,723 Square feet, and is delineated on
the enclosed plan. In view of the statements made in the ac-
companying letter from lar. Chatham and its enclosure I am of
opinion that the extension may be granted. As in the case of
the former grant the lease would be for Seventy-five years,
and provision would be made for the resumption of the site by
Government if at any time it ceased to be used for the purpose
for which it was granted. A nominal rental should be charged
of $1 per annum, and the Seventy-five years' lease should
date from the time of the original grant in 1900.

I have now to ask your authority for both
the extensions of the original site and your covering authority
for the expenditure of $2,800.
I have the honour to be, Sir,
Your most obedient Humble servant,

Governor,
